She is marrying Alan, the same guy who told about Sophie's toes. First, they say that "we could all realize that marriage to a norm would become intolerable" (92). They are also worried that Anne will tell him or let something slip about the group and Alan will tell everyone that they are not normal.
Like Alyssa said, Anne's marriage is frightening to David and the group because they are afraid that Anne will tell Alan, her soon to be husband about her and the group and her will tell the inspector or someone about the group and they will be sent to the fringes. Also David doesn’t want Anna to marry Alan because he is the one who told everyone about Sophie’s sixth toe, that she is a “mutant”. David doesn’t want Anna to marry a “norm” because they are not like them. David and the group are worried because Anne is putting the whole group at risk and they have a “sword over [their] heads” (96).
Anne's marriage to Alan is frightening to David and the group because they fear she will tell about their telepathy, and Alan has already told about Sophie's six toes. Sophie had to leave Waknuk and they do not want to have to do the same so they feel insecure enough to consider killing Alan.
Like Angie and Alyssa have said, the marriage is frightening to David and the group because if Anne ever accidentally let it slip about their powers, or he some how found out, they could all be in danger. I feel it is also frightening to them because Anne is trying to be somehting she isn't, she is trying to be a norm, and I feel that that bugs the group. I think it also frightend David because he knows what Alan is like, because Alan was the one that told about Sophie's toes.
Anne's marriage is frightening to the group because, like everyone said, since she is marrying a "norm" there is a high risk of them getting discovered. David doesn't believe that Alan is trustworthy because he was the one that told about Sophie's sixth toe. If the inspector finds out, there is a risk of them being sent away to the fringes. The group thinks that it would be near impossibe to live with someone who had no thought-shapes (92). They believe that Anne would be lying to herself by ignoring such a big part of her life. They're upset to lose her as a friend. They also don't think that a "norm" would understand "the concept of 'thinking-together', so that two minds are able to do what one cannot" (93.)
Anne's marriage is frightening to David and rest of the group because, she is marrying a "norm" (alan) So there is a large risk of their group being discovered. David and the group are worried about losing Anne " a sense of warning, with a sharpened awareness that we were set apart," (103)
The marriage is frighting David and he group because she is going to marry Alan. Alan is the same guy that told about Sophies six toe, ao they are worried because Anne may say something without noticing ang he will go and tell the whole community that the kids are not normal. Which will put the whole group in jeperdy, and may cause alot of mischief and chaos.
In my opinion, the concept of Anne's marriage to a norm, (Alan) is more of a threat than something for the group to fear. Fear, would mean cowarding about the idea. David and the group though all worry about the concept instead. They feel Anne is trying to diverge from who she really is by involving herself in a world of normalcy. The group is almost a family; feeling as though Anne no longer wants to be apart of it, is like your parents giving you up for adoption after raising you for sixteen years.
Not only this, but as stated, Alan is the one who informed the inspector about Sophie's extra toe. This makes it clear that Alan is against those who are different, just as the rest of the town is as well. How could the group allow their friend to marry a man who would hate who she truly is?
The reason why Anne's marriage is frightening to David and the group is everyone worrid about she will tell her husband about Sophie has six toes. This is because if she would tells her husband this, then he would tells to the inspections. Then, Sophie would be die. That is why Anne's marriage is frightening to David and the group
The group doesn't want Anne to marry Alan because he is a norm. The group thinks that Alan is untrustworthy because he was the one who informed the town of Sophie's six toes. David thinks that if Alan finds out about the groups abnormality he will inform the the town like he did to Sophie. If the town finds out about the group than they will be sent to the fringes.
The group is frightened about Anne's marriage to Alan because they don't think it is safe for any of them to marry a norm, to keep the secret about all of them from that person their entire life, it is too risky. They are also frightened because she is being very unreasonable, not just because she will not even listen to their reasoning as to why she should not marry him but because she seems to not realize that by doing this she is risking all of there lives, wich is extreamly selfish.
