How do Mr. and Mrs. Morton help Rosalind? What does this tell you about families in Waknuk?
Mrs. Morton helped Rosalind by getting her prepared and gave her horses for her journey with David and Petra. "My mother and I spent two solid hours packing up these panniers and getting the saddles slung up ready for an emergency" (126). This tells us that some families in Waknuk don’t necessarily follow the rules when it comes to their own children or family because they care so much about them. Some families will try their best to protect their children.
The Chrysalids doesn't mention about Mr. Morton's help. However, As Angie said, Mrs. Morton helps Rosalind to get ready for an emergency; Rosalind and Mrs. Morton spends "two solid hours packing up these pannier and getting the saddles slung up. She also has helped Rosalind by not speaking about her Deviation at all, although she is guessed what it is, so that her daughter doesn't get in any trouble.
This tells that there are some families, including Aunt Harriet and Sophie's, who will break the Purity Laws to keep their children safe.
Mr. and Mrs.Morton help Rosalind by helping her prepare for her leaving, and they also give her a horse for her journey with David and Petra. Mrs.Morton also did her part by not saying anything at all about her assumptions of Rosalind's deviation.
As David learned, Rosalind's mother had "sort of half-known" (126) about her ability. Unlike David's mother who he could not imagine his "own mother doing such a thing for Petra's sake" (126). Mrs. Morton had helped Rosalind out bye spending "two solid hours packing up these panniers and getting the saddles slung up ready for an emergency" (126). This tells you that it's a possibility that families may know more than they tell. It tells you that families such as Sophie's, Aunt Harriet's and Rosalind's are, like Yo Hu said, are willing to "break the Purity Laws to keep their children safe" and like Angie said, are willing to break the rules to protect their children.
Mr. and Mrs. Morton helped Rosalind when she left. They helped her to get ready for leaving. This tells us about rules are needless in front of family's danger. Helping mutants for leaving is illegal in David's society. However, Mr. ad Mrs. Morton helped Rosalind even though they had known this is illegal. So, i think the book would want to tell us about rules are needless in front of family's danger.
Mr and mrs Morton help rosalind by assisting with what she needed for the road such as packing necesseties and transaportation.
