Who is the "spider-man"? What implications does his story have for David's family?
The "spider-man" is David's Uncle, or Joseph Storms brother. It shows that even though his family is suppouse to be very "true lined" or try to stay in God's eye. But not all of his family is as perfect as they were said to be. For even Joshepe's own mother, could not give up one of her own sons. She diverted from the path.
"Spider Man" is Joseph Strorms brother, or David's Uncle. This shows that his family is supposed to be very pure, but their are mutants in their family tree. Not all his family is perfect, and I think "spider-man" is part of the reason David's father is so strict about purity.
"Spider Man" is a man in the fringes with abnormaly long arms and legs. He is the leader of the group of Fringe people that capture David, Rosalind, and Petra. David Finds out that he is his uncle and his father, Joseph Strorms, brother. This connection with the Strorm's and this man in the Frings that has not been sterilized, shows that even David's seemenly unforgiving of deviations family has had a past of deviational children and conspirating to hide them. Even David's mother who turned down Aunt Harriet when her baby was a deviation, had helped her son, "Spider Man", run away to the fringes and stay in existant to the people of Waknuk.
"Spider-man" is found out to be the brother of Joseph Strorm, David's father, as we read throughout the novel. This then makes Spider-man to be David's Uncle. Spider-man had been the man with the abnormally long limbs that we had read about earlier within the book. As we continued to read the book, we found out the connections between Spider-man and David's father. This shows that David's family wasn't always born in God's Image. There had been deviations within the family, and even then they were still not accepted. Spider-man did leave for the Friges, but without staralization. This proves that David's mother hesitated on whether or not she thought it was necessary to give up her son just because of his slight deviation. As Lindsay said, there were deviations in David's family, and I think that is part of the reason why David's father is so strict about purity. David's father was ashamed to have had a deviation in his family, so he wanted to make sure that no blasphemy would ever happen agian.
"Spider-man" was the man that David had found himself staring dumbfoundedly at. He even stated, "he'd be the image of my father" (33). Later on in the book you come to discover that Spider-man is afterall, Joseph's brother. This making him David's uncle. This, and the fact that David's mother had produced two deviations, implies that David's family isn't as pure as Joseph may hope. As Lindsay believes, I also believe that Spinder-man may be the reason Joseph is so strict about blashphemy.
"Spider-man" is the man from the fringes with almost freakishly long arms and legs, and also has a striking resemblance to David's father Joseph. It is later found out that he is actually Joseph Strorm's brother, which means he is also David's uncle. He was sent out to the fringes because the Strorm family is supposed to have been deviant free, though it was already obvious that they weren't because of David's powers.
The Spider-man is Joseph Storm's brother. His real name is Gordon and he he is Davids uncle. He is named "Spider-Man" because he has abnormally long arms and legs. Gordon was sent to the Fringes latter in life because of his long limbs. After being sent to the Fringes, Gordon becomes somewhat of a leader in the fringes. Sophie falls in love with Gordon but is unable to give him children because she was sterilized before she was sent to the fringes. Gordon is fond of Sophie but really interested in Rosalind because she can bear him children.
The "spider-man" is the brother of David's father. So, he is also uncle of David. His real name is Gordon. He is from Fringe because he is a mutant. He has much longer arms and legs than Norms. It shows people that David's family is not perfect as people know ironically David's fater is really strict about Mutants.
The "spider-man" is the man David had an encounter with when he was younger and described him as standing "eight inches taller than anyone alse" with "monsterously long and thin arms" (p.34). He is David's uncle, who would have been the heir of Waknuk if he wasn't sent away to the Fringes for being a mutant. This confirms what david had already guessed awhile ago since he looked a lot like his father. This evidence shows that Joseph's seemingly pure family doesn't quite fit the "true image". When Gordon came to Waknuk he was held captive. Like Lindsay and Victoria said, David's father, Joseph, is most likely ashamed of his brother and this may be the reason he is so strict about deviations.
As many have said already, it is discovered in chapter 14 that 'spider-man' is Joseph Strorms brother (Davids uncle). Like Adi pointed out, he would have been the heir of Waknuk if it wasn't for his "monsterously long and thin arms" (pg 34). To me, it is ironic that Davids family is known for their purity throughout the community, even though Josephs mother, David's mother and Aunt Harriet were involved in the creation of deviations and in two cases, the concealment of a deviation.
The "spider-man" also known as Gordon, is David's Uncle. He is "The eldest son. The Heir." (160) to Waknuk.
