Compare Sophie's actions to free Rosalind and Petra with Uncle Axel's murderous actions earlier in the novel
Sophie's actions are similar to Uncle Axel's, becuase she was willing to sacrafice her own safety to help those who are in desperait need of assistance.
But they are different, because Uncle Axel had nothing to gain from helping them, only the chance for loss. Sophie had a chance to gain from helping them, by keeping Rosalind from Gordon. Thus keeping him all to herself.
I agree with what Connor has said. And to add, Sophie's and Uncle Axel's murderous actions are very similar because they both had a reason and were both doing it to protect people. they were both putting their own safety at risk and took the chances. But also like Connor said, Sophie's actions were more to suit herself because she wanted Gordon all to herself, and was scared that if he got ahold of Rosalind, that she would lose him.
Sophie had killed the guard to save David, Petra and Rosalind because Sophie had been friends with David when they were younger. David was her only friend in Waknuk that didn’t judge her by the way she looked. He simply looked past her extra toe and liked her for who she was. Sophie had also helped them because she was jealous of Rosalind and was afraid that Rosalind would give Gordon children when she wanted him all to herself. Basically Sophie put her life at risk because of the friendship David and her shared and also because of jealousy.
Uncle Axel actions are similar to Sophie’s because he was putting his life on the line for someone he cared about. But also Uncle Axel killed Alan because it was benefiting others and not him. His actions were very selfless unlike Sophie’s.
Her actions are similar when freeing Rosalind and Petra because she is taking a gamble with her own life to save others, and make the future of others better even though it could result in her being killed, or being held prisoner. She has also realized who the good guys are, and knows what is at stake if she doesn't free them. She knows that what she is doing will better the future of not only Waknuk, but the world.
